Everyone likes Hollywood movies and stunning Hollywood movie stars. Have you ever dreamed of being a director yourself? You can direct a movie, which is the reflection of the world in your imagination. Someone thinks it is very hard to direct a movie; however, you can finish it if you can be brave enough to take the first step.
How to direct a movie? If you have no idea of movie directing, you can learn some basic rules to make a movie in this article. You need four basic factors to direct a movie, including script, actor’s performances, camera angles and music. Maybe you cannot be a famous director; you can still direct a movie to memorize your life. And your family and friends can also join your movie project.
Firstly, you need a script. You can write the script by yourself or ask your friends to write it for you. If you get the script from others, you need to read the script to know what the story is. Of course, you also need to read the script if you write it on your own. Maybe you’ll read it for countless times during the movie directing. There are different characters in the script, so you’ll know their respective roles in the movie. A good movie director should be a good story-teller, so you need to understand the inside meaning of the story. Storyboard the shots and sequences for yourself, your crew and actors.
Secondly, actor’s performances are very important. As a director, you should help actors and actresses to perform well during the movie shooting process. You need to make sure that actors and actresses feel comfortable with you, so they can go over difficult lines at ease.
Thirdly, good camera angles make a good movie. Keep your camera angles in balance when you direct your first movie. And you can take some daring ones in next movies later on. Different scenes need different camera angles. If you decide to shoot a heroic shot, you can have the camera looking up at the actor, or you can use aerial shot to make the “being watched” scene. Sure, a good director masters all basic shots, including wide angle, medium angle and close-up. Wide angle, or establishing shot, enables the audience see surroundings, getting a sense of time and space where story is situated. Medium shot is good for seeing a group of people. Close-up shot is suitable for seeing an expression or detail of a key element or prop.
Fourthly, choose good music for your movie. A Hollywood movie always has a specific music team. As you may not have such a team, you can choose appropriate music following your feelings and ideas. Your music tone should be matched with the movie tone. A song that contains high-noted, rhythmic song with gaps gives a light feel. Low and slow give a scary, sneaking-up-on-you effect. High and fast is good for action.
If you want to direct a movie, just do it now. Buy used video equipment or rent Sony HD monitor, you can still direct your movie. Your movie director dream will come true if you can take the first step.
