You may have recently read that Blockbuster filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but that doesn’t mean that Blockbuster Online isn’t still in business. Just the opposite, in fact. As Blockbuster moves away from their brick-and-mortar stores, they’ll have even more resources available to focus on their online rental service. In this article, I’ll familiarize you with everything that’s offered by Blockbuster Online, including pricing plans, types of movies, and viewing options. While Netflix is undoubtedly the king of the hill when it comes to renting movies online, Blockbuster Online isn’t a bad alternative (especially if you’re a fan of video games).
Blockbuster Online – Movies and TV Shows
Blockbuster Online carries over 95,000 movies and TV shows. Each one is available for rent, and many can also be purchased through their site. Older titles can be bought for as little as $9.99, while newer films run around $22.99. When it comes to movies, Blockbuster Online offers titles in the following categories:
Action & Adventure
Family & Kids
Music & Performing Arts
Mystery & Suspense
Sci-Fi & Fantasy
Sports & Fitness
Once you select a titles or titles, they will be delivered right to your home. When you’re finished with them, you can either mail them back (postage is pre-paid) or drop them off at a nearby Blockbuster store for free movie rentals or discounted game rentals (if you choose the Total Access membership option). There are no late fees for the movies you receive by mail, and titles will arrive within one to two business days. Shipping is free both ways, and there are no extra fees for Blu-ray rentals.

One thing Blockbuster Online offers that Netflix does not is video game rentals online. In the past, video games could only be rented from brick-and-mortar Blockbuster locations, but this has changed in recent times. Currently over 3,000 video games can be rented by mail for the XBox 360, PS3, PS2, and Wii.
How to Watch Movies
There are few different options for how customers may watch movies rented from Blockbuster Online. The simplest, of course, it to receive the movie and enjoy it on your DVD or Blu-ray player. Movies downloads can also be rented or purchased, allowing you to watch films on your PC, cell phone, or other wireless device.
There are a number of other bells and whistles available from Blockbuster Online, but hopefully this gives you a basic idea of what you can look forward to. As Netflix continues to apply the pressure, check Blockbuster’s site often to look for new offers and pricing options. As these two titans clash over dominance of the online movie rental industry, it’s the consumer who reaps the rewards.
