How to Become a Cell Phone Dealer


If you’re thinking about becoming a cell phone dealer then there are a few things to consider. You will have to acquire a business license first of all if you want to run your own store. Or you can work for a major company and set up a kiosk in a local mall. You will also have to have good knowledge of technology and keep up with it as it evolves.

Being a cell phone dealer doesn’t just mean you’re going to stand around selling cell phones. Regardless of if you are at a kiosk or your own store people are going to be coming in with questions. You are going to have to provide them with answers to these questions. They may range from phone replacement, to helping them set up a wireless plan, but regardless they will be asking you for help.

If you run your own business you will probably have other people there to help, but you will still need to be quick on your feet. Often if you sell name brands they will offer to support your store if you offer their wireless services. You will also have to keep your stock of phones updated, and include a healthy inventory of accessories. Good service will equal repeat customers and that’s something that you want.

Another thing you might want to think about when setting up your own store is location. While this is the truth for all business types it applies especially to a cell phone dealer. If you set up in an area without good access you won’t get many customers. So you need to build in a place that people can find easily, then you need to convince them to stick with you.

A good cell phone dealer also puts the customer first in all things. Many people prefer to buy their phones from unmanned kiosks because they don’t like a pushy sales person. So when you get a customer you can mention plans, but do not force them. Remember that in order to build your business up, you need to drive sales up, and getting people to spread good news about you is the best way to do that. So be as polite as possible, and don’t try to scam people.

If however you work for a major company at one of their stores you may not have this luxury. Many of these stores have a quota that they want their sales people to meet and do not care how they get it done. These kind of thuggish tactics have led many people to be stuck with bad phones, and bad plans that they can’t use. So in the long run it’s better to employ yourself, rather than be on someone else’s payroll. Plus if you make your own business you will be creating jobs, which is a good thing.

So if you want to be a cell phone dealer and think you can handle it then go for it. You will have to deal with some bad situations though. Sometimes you get that one angry customer that just isn’t satisfied no matter what you do. Everyone in retail has to deal with this person once in a while, but it comes with the territory.
