People shouldn’t skip out on their sleep. Sleep for the human brain is very important and helps our memory and learning process. In a survey it’s been linked that people who study right before bed in fact had better results. Sleep can also affect your moods, such as being grumpy, impatient, and concentration. Each person should try to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep per day. Different people function differently depending on how much sleep their body needs. There are 5 stages of sleep that you brain goes through. All of the stages of sleep and sleeping is controlled by the brain.
Stage 1: This is the beginning of the sleep cycle and it is considered to be the light part of sleep. This is right before you fall asleep you begin to feel drowsy and tired. This is a result of your brain releasing a chemical called melatonin. This is responsible for making you feel drowsy and tired. This stage can last anywhere from 5-10 minutes.
Stage 2: During this stage of sleep the body temperature actually decreases and heart rate begins to slow. This is preparing you for the deepest part of sleep. Your brain begins to produce rhythmic brain waves known as sleep spindles and this is to get your brain in a rhythm that allows you to fall deeper asleep.
Stage 3 and 4: These two stages are together because they are essentially the same thing. During these stages, the brain produces different brain waves that allow you to fall deeper asleep. It is during this deep sleep that people can sleep walk.
REM Sleep: This is the last and final stage of sleep known as Rapid Eye Movement sleep. This is the stage of sleep where dreaming occurs because your brain is activated. During this stage, your body is actually paralyzed and the only part of your body that is active is your brain.
