New Hip Hop Group From Pittsburgh, Lyrical Steel

Formed last year, Lyrical Steel broke on scene with a few select tracks, put on YouTube, found a following and the rest is history. Their members include, VanKirk, B-Dub, and P. Prodigy. Vankirk produces each track and creates the monster beats associated with this steel city group and they do just that. They exemplify Pittsburgh in their lyrics and their sound. While they just recently released some music to iTunes, they have been available on YouTube and Facebook for awhile. Check them out if you want to hear some fresh sounding hip hop and rap. You won’t be disappointed.

Their first track off their self entitled album is “The RX” which mixes an intro into a straight flow. The Rx implies that hip hop is sick, and they are trying to bring it back.

Some other tracks such as “Start Sellin (the rise and fall of a drug dealer)” were inspired by the movie Goodfellas, and “Walk like a Champion” inspired by the 6 time Super Bowl winning Pittsburgh Steelers.

While most Lyrical Steel tracks feature at least two of their members, some of the tracks on the upcoming album are solo tracks, in “Facebook Redneck”, P. Prodigy spits game as a redneck who has embraced technology. In “Rewind the Time” B-Dub reminisces on his life and how it can never be changed. VanKirk spits a Gangstarr type style in “Sonically Gifted” which features three different beats. A definitive throwback to the Jeru Da Damaja/Guru days.

All told, this could be a great upcoming group if more people knew about them. I highly suggest giving them a listen. They are on Facebook as Lyrical Steel, and also available on iTunes.
