Bollywood is the Indian equivalent of Hollywood. Bollywood produces about 1000 movies a year.
If you go to India you will see Bollywood everywhere, from huge billboards to front pages of magazines and ads for fizzy drinks and televisions. Bollywood is everywhere.
Although Hollywood has a broader audience, but Bollywood has an attraction that Hollywood cannot ignore. A lot of companies from Hollywood are actively investing money in Bollywood. Some of these companies are: 20th century FOX, Sony Entertainment, Warner Brothers, Disney etc.
Indians living in Western countries have helped Bollywood become global. Bollywood movies are now commonly shown on the cinema screens in UK, USA and Canada. You can go to any big city and chances are the cinemas are showing the latest Bollywood releases.
If you do not go to cinemas often and do like to watch Indian movies, you can always rent or buy new and old Bollywood DVDs in cities with significant Indian population. There are always shops which sell and rent Indian movies on DVDs in these cities. Bollywood is part of Indian culture, even if you live abroad.
If you happen to live in a city or a small town with no Indian shop selling Bollywood DVDs then you can buy your favourite Indian movie online. There are numerous online shops which sell Bollywood DVDs. But you will have to shop around and find the right shop. There are big price differences between these shops. Some online shops have sky high prices for Bollywood movies. That is because the buyers do not know that there are other options on the internet. The buyers go to the first website they find and think that it is the website which has the best selection and because it is on the first page of the search engines then it must be a good website. But if you scroll down or go to second or even third page of the search engines, you will find gems of online shops. You can save more than half of the money by just taking your time and shopping around before actually buying the DVDs you want. There are online shops which sell only the latest releases. But there are also online shops which sell old, black and white, and new movies.
As an Indian Bollywood movies fan you will be astonished to know that there a lot of westerners, non-Indians, who buy old Bollywood movies.
